  • Create a Customised Ambiance with Your Own Bespoke Upcycled Feature Lamp

Looking for a unique lamp for your home? Have you ever wanted something totally unique for your home, bored of off-the-shelf boring light fixtures? Looking for something that bit different? If you want something totally unique lamp to add charm and character to enhance your interior decor, now you can! We can create a customised bespoke feature lamp to add a beautiful ambiance to enhance your home. Unique bespoke feature lamps, that's what we do! At Stage Left Lux we specialise in creating unique feature lamps from old unused or redundant household objects. We can design and create a bespoke unique lighting fixture for you by upcycling your old objects in to feature lamps. Whether it's a sentimental object like an old musical instrument, or an object that you just don't use any more like your old soda syphon or your old retro landline phone. We can sympathetically upcycle your old household objects into a wonderful feature lamp to add joy to your surroundings. Cornet upcycled lamp We were recently contacted by Julie to ask if we could turn an old cornet trumpet into a lamp. The musical instrument was precious to Julie as it belonged to her grandmother and had special memories attached to it. Julie emailed us one evening to ask if this could be done? ''of course, I would love to help with turning your cornet into a lamp!'' How does our bespoke lamp upcycling service work? Simply contact us to discuss your object, and then send it to us in the post. Like Julie did. Julie lives in Exeter and posted her cornet to our workshop in Derby. We got to work, carefully dismantling and cleaning the cornet, for this upcycled lamp we wanted to have the bulb coming out of the horn, this meant we needed to mount the musical instrument vertically. For this we carefully made by hand a wooden base with a backboard which would support the cornet vertically. The timber for this was cut to shape by hand and then the sides were finished and sanded to give a smooth chamfered edge. Your choice of colour! At this point we got in touch with Julie to ask what colour she would like the wooden lamp base to be, our preference was dark oak which we though would enhance the look of the silver coloured cornet. Julie agreed! We used a dark oak wood stain and then treated it with wax. The electrical parts! We obtained a silver coloured ES27 bulb holder which was in keeping with the colour of the cornet. We used specialist chandelier cable to run the earth, live and neutral cables through the inside of the curved pipes of the cornet. The bulb holder was fastened in place using a no-damage technique that we have developed (this is a little trade secret of ours!) Our special no-damage technique for fitting bulb holders inside the horns of musical instruments means the additional electrical parts we add are securely fixed in place but the changes we make could be reversed. Attaching the cornet to the wooden lamp base to finish the lamp To fix the cornet to the lamp base we used brass fittings which are normally used to fix copper pipe to a wall. These fixings were the perfect size to wrap around the tubes and pipework of the cornet whilst securely fixing it in place, again whilst not causing any irreversible damage. The mains cable, switch and plug was then wired up. We even added a finishing touch with an LED bulb that has a filament in the shape of a treble clef musical note! The end result was a beautiful lamp that holds treasured memories and is also a unique work of art that can be admired for years to come. What other objects can we upcycle into a lamp? We can upcycle almost any old household object into a unique feature lamp. Stage Left Lux have years of years' experience of turning old objects into lamps, we love being able to do our bit prevent waste from going to landfill by saving them by repurposing them into creative lighting features. • Why should I get my old vintage light restored or repaired?

If you have an old vintage lamp or antique light, you should consider getting it repaired and restored. Old lamps may still work but they could have some hidden issues which could be dangerous. There are lots of reasons why you should consider repairing and restoring your old vintage and antique lamps. Repairing old lamps is a great way to preserve the original character of old light fittings and it's good for the planet too. Here are six good reasons why you should get your old lamps fixed, instead do buying new: 1. Old wiring can be dangerous Overtime the insulation on wiring can breakdown, degrade and become brittle which could potentially cause the inner copper wires to become exposed which could lead to an electrical shock hazard or even cause a fire! 2. Old components & electrical parts in old lamps may not be up to modern electrical standards Over the years there have been lots of developments in electrical safety. Old light fixtures may not conform to modern electrical safety standards. Some old light fixtures may be wired using the incorrect type of cable or might not be earthed which means they may not be safe to use. 3. Old bulb holders might not work with modern LED bulbs Replacing the bulb holders on vintage and antique lamps will make sure that they are suitable for use with new LED bulbs. LED bulbs are more energy efficient than incandescent bulbs. LED bulbs are now available in a range of designs including ones featuring realistic filament effects giving a traditional Edison style which means your vintage lamp can be used with LED bulbs but retain it's traditional look and character. 4. Less waste going to landfill Fixing old lamps, repurposing and reusing old light fixtures instead of replacing with new will mean that we send less waste to landfill. 5. Maintain original character & charm If you live in a heritage property it makes sense to use light fixtures which fit-in with the character & style of your home. Repairing, rewiring and restoring vintage and antique lights will allow you to enjoy traditional lighting fixtures that are in-keeping with your interior design. If you've found an old light fixture, lamp, chandelier or wall light at a market or an antiques fair it can be rewired and restored to make sure it is safe to use and provides you with years of enjoyment. You can sometimes pick up bargains on eBay by searching for '' vintage lights that need restoring '' if you find a broken lamp that you like we can restore it for you. 6. Good for your pocket Repairing can be more cost effective than buying new. Old lamps are often available at auctions, antiques centres and on internet auction sites that just need a bit of TLC. These lamps are normally available for a lower price as they need some work doing to being them back into use. How can Stage Left Lux help with fixing and restoring old lamps? At Stage Left Lux, we can expertly repair and restore most of types of vintage and antique light fittings. We offer a restoration service for almost any style of light including modern, vintage and antique floor standing lamps, wall lights, table lamps and chandeliers. • Upcycled lighting, handmade in Derbyshire

We create amazing feature lighting by upcycling everyday unused materials and transform them into beautiful feature lighting for your home. We love to use old redundant objects that have had their day and make them useful again by upcycling them into amazing feature lights! Last weekend we visited the Antiques centre at Ilkeston Derbyshire, we had an amazing day and got loads of goodies to upcycle into lamps. We bought an old vintage style landline phone, some carpenters block planes, some pressure gauges, and even an old rusty cake baking tin, oh and a rustic wooden plant stand! Here's how we created this upcycled lamp... We used the plant stand as a base, carefully attached one of the carpenters planes to it as a totem-pole column. We added a copper pipe arm with lovely chunky brass pipe fittings. We've then used the rusty old baking tin as a huge lampshade, giving a stunning look..... Here's the result, this eye-catching steampunk-industrial style table lamp, perfect for adding excitement to any space. It would look perfect in a New York loft apartment or even a country cottage. • Alexa & Smart LED bulbs will work with our lamps

ALEXA BULBS!!! We recently had a query from a customer asking if our lamps would work with Alexa or other smart bulbs? The answer is YES our lamps will work with Alexa and smart LED bulbs! All of our lamps are mains powered and come with either a bayonet cap BC22 or a screw ES27 so if your Alexa bulb has one of those fittings it would work to enable you to control your lamp via WIFI using your smartphone. How will it work? You would need to use the appropriate cap type Alexa bulb (BC22 or ES27) and just leave the switch on the lamp in the on position, that way your bulb would be able to respond to Alexa's voice commands.
