At Stage Left Lux we stock a wide range of new & vintage spare parts for repairing lamps as well as a collection of old broken and vintage lights which can provide donor parts to give lighting repairs an authentic original look. We will only ever use new electrical components (switches bulb holders, cables and plugs which comply with UK wiring regulations, CE & British Standards). We can fix, rewire and restore almost any type of light to bring it up to modern day electrical standards and get it working again. 2) Get in touch to discuss your repair Tell us about your lamp, we'd love to know the story behind it, did you break it or was it broken when you bought it? We get a lot of requests for repairs for lamps which cats have knocked over! We can tell you how we can help to bring your light back to life. 3) Send your lamp to our workshop in Derby Pack you're lamp up and send it to us. Remember to include a note inside the box with your name and return address so we know who it belongs. Send your lamp to our workshop at Stage Left Lux, Banks Mill, Bridge Street, Derby, DE1 3BT . 4) We will fix it! We will sympathetically carry out any repairs that are needed, including replacement bulb holders, rewire, fit new plugs and switches and replace any missing or damaged parts. All of the electrical parts that we use are quality components that carry CE (Conformité Européenne) & BS British standard, and will be rewired using cable that is in keeping with the style of the lamp. Your lamp will be safety checked and undergo Portable Appliance testing to ensure that it is working correctly and safe to use. 5) We'll post your lamp back to you After your lamp is repaired, we will securely package it up and send it back to you in the post using a fast recorded delivery service to ensure that it is insured and guaranteed to reach you quickly 6) oh, we forgot about the 6th step... What we will do Assess your light to check what is damaged, what needs replacing or repairing, our aim is to keep the light close to its original appearance but making sure it is safe and complies with current wiring regulations Carefully dismantle the lighting fixture Thoroughly clean all components Replace any missing parts Fit new, but authentic BC22 or ES27 bulb holders Rewire using a suitable style cable Fit an inline switch & new UK mains plug (if required) PAT test to ensure your light is safe Fit vintage style LED bulbs Prices vary depending on how complex your light is and if additional or replacement parts are required. Upcycled and repurposed vintage theatre lighting Theatre lights make an amazing addition to your home, when mounted on a wooden tripod they create an industrial but elegant atmosphere. They are great to use as decorative room lights, reading lamps or to light up your favourite piece of art. Theatre lights tend to have a very high powered halogen bulb sometimes 500 or even 1,000 watts. We can convert vintage theatre lights to make then suitable for use in a domestic setting by restoring them and replacing the bulb holders to enable them to take modern LED bulbs which are more efficient and create less heat making them perfect to use int he home. We have a passion for all things that light up, we see the wonderful in old redundant light fixtures and bring them back to life. We specialise mainly in rewiring and repurposing old and vintage theatre lights such as Strand Patt 123, Strand Patt 137 and Furse Theatre lights, CCT, Pulsar and other models of theatre spotlights. But we are happy to consider rewiring most types of light fittings, including chandeliers, wall lights and table lamps. We make them work again and bring them up to modern electrical standards. Vintage Camera Upcycled Lamp Bespoke Custom-Made Project The Breif We were recently contacted by James, he wanted a special gift for his girlfriend, something that could act as a memory for her brother who had sadly passed away recently. Her brother was a fanatical photographer. James thought it would be a great idea to have an old vintage camera upcycled into a table lamp to act as a memento of his girlfriend's brother. The Design James sent the camera to us in the post, we discussed various options and did some sketches for how the finished product would look. The lamp was to feature a vintage style edison bulb onopofhe camera, with camera mounted on a miniature tripod. After agreeing the design Scott at Stage Left Lux set to work to create the vision. The Build The camera was carefully dismantled so the bulb holder and other electrical parts could be fitted. The Finish The end result was a beautiful lamp which is not only functional and practical, it holds special memories which will live on for a lifetime. Stage Left Lux is a unique lighting shop based in Derbyshire , in the heart of England. All our vintage style lamps and bespoke lighting features are designed and handcrafted by us in our workshop in Derby and are available to buy via our online lighting shop, from us at various craft fairs, markets and in a selection of shops in the UK. Every single one of our lamps is a one-of-a-kind work of art. We think that great lighting should look amazing when it’s switched off as well as doing a good job as a functional light when it’s switched on. Established in 2020 Stage Left Lux was established in 2020 by me, Scott Trelfa following a trip to Heanor Antiques Centre. During the trip to the antiques center I found an old vintage theatre light. I took the light home, fitted a new bulb holder, and rewired it and turned the old theatre light into a wonderful vintage style tripod standing lamp. This sparked off the drive to create something useful and beautiful out of something old unused objects, by upcycling old objects into funky lamps and novelty lights. Stage Left Lux specialise in making wonderfully quirky lamps, restored vintage and antique lighting . Our upcycled lighting and lamps which are made from repurposed old household objects, and we offer a bespoke made to order lighting service. We love lighting, and we believe it should be sustainable. We hate waste and see beauty in what others see as junk. We love to take old redundant household objects, which could have been thrown away and turn them into something useful. This helps to reduce waste from entering landfill and enables us to create beautiful one-off feature lights which are also artistic and stylish and add charm and character, perfect for any interior design style. Some of the objects that we have turned into lamps include old cheese graters, antique tools, sewing machines, drills, blow torches fire extinguishers and bike pumps! One of our favourite weekend pass-times is to visit local antiques shops to find old objects that we can transform into amazing quirky feature lights. We can rewire lamps imported from overseas to make them safe to use in the UK. Convert lamps for use in the UK We get lots of enquiries to rewire lights from overseas, especially lamps from the USA, Canada, Europe and other countries so they can safely be used in the UK. If you're bringing lamps from overseas into the UK, we can convert them. Imported lamps and light fittings may not safe to use and often do not meet UK wiring regulations. Whether you've purchased a chandelier at a market in France, a table lamp from Morocco or a desk lamp from America we can help by converting your light to make it safe for use in the UK, and for them to be able to be plugged in without the need for any adapters. Foreign lights not only have a different plug, but the bulb holders, switches and cables may not meet UK wiring regulations and safety standards. Due to lower voltages in many countries lamps are often wired using only thin two-core cable meaning the cable may not be able to withstand our higher voltage, but they are also not earthed, and could pose a risk of electric shocks or fire if not properly rewired. UK wiring regulations require that metal bulb holders are earthed. Metal parts could become a hazard if a fault with the wiring occurs, which could pose a risk of electric shocks. Fire extinguisher bespoke lamp We were asked to commission a special feature lamp made from an old fire extinguisher, for a customer as a gift for her husband who is an ex-fireman. Fire extinguisher custom-made feature lamp We were recently contacted by a customer and asked if we could create a special lighting feature for her husband who was an ex-fireman. They were not sure what exactly they wanted the end product to look like, just that they would like it to have a fire extinguisher and a fire helmet. I have a few antique and vintage fire extinguishers in stock, I was able to give the customer various options to choose from, they chose a beautiful old copper extinguisher. I then sketched some initial ideas, the customer loved the what I was thinking and asked me to go ahead straight away! The initial plan was to build a wooden base, but during the make, I thought it would be a nice touch to have the wooden backboard floating on a copper frame, to add to the industrial steampunk effect of the piece. The wooden backboard was torched to enhance the fire theme. The end result is a stunning statement piece lamp which stands over a metre tall - a real testament to the dediucationa nd hard work that our firefighters do.
