Can we turn a soda syphon into a lamp? Yes we can! We were recently asked by a customer if we could turn an old soda syphon into a lamp. We drew up plans for the soda syphon to give the customer the option to choose which idea they preferred best. We carefully dismantled and cleaned the soda syphon, we gave the customer the option of running the power cable either through the nozzle or out of the base of the syphon. The customer preferred the option with the cable coming out of the base, meaning we had to drill a hole at the side towards the bottom of the soda syphons metal body. We obtained a chrome bulb holder which was in keeping with the chrome finish of the metal parts of the syphon. We mounted the bulb holder on the part where the gas cannisters would have originally been fitted. This gave the bulb a funky 45 degree angle and using a vintage tear drop shaped bulb to mirror the shape of the gas cannisters which would once have been there. The overall effect was a very cool retro lamp perfect for the home bar. Stage Left Lux are an independent creative lighting business based in Derbyshire. Tree branch ceiling light by Stage Left Lux for bespoke feature lighting handmade in Derbyshire using upcycled and repurposed materials. Rustic tree branch ceiling lighting fixture Stage Left Lux was commissioned by one of our regular customers to design and create a unique ceiling lighting fixture made from a rustic tree branch. Bespoke ceiling light chandelier made from a rustic tree branch We were contacted again by one of our customers to design and commission another bespoke feature light for their home. Last year we were asked by Steph to create a unique standing lamp by repurposing an old shotgun , this time Steph was looking for a unique ceiling light for her dining room. The brief: A nice rustic finish chandelier style ceiling light, with lamps suspended from a tree branch Wired using chunky vintage style braided cable in dark purple Antique brass light fittings a variety of unique and unusual vintage style lightbulbs in different shapes Steph had been able to find a tree branch that she liked the look of, after discussing various different options mounting and wiring and for the overall design, I provide steph with colour options and different styles of cable and bulb holders to choose from, as well as options for the colour of the ceiling rose accessories and mounting chain and hooks. After agreeing the colours and style, I set about researching many different lighting suppliers and wholesalers to find the perfect accessories and parts to make the ceiling light. I was able to assemble the pieces together and visit Steph at her home to install the lighting fixture for her, due to the organic nature of the branch there were several different ways that it could have been installed we were able to further discuss options whilst I was on-site and adjust the light to meet requirements during the installation. I was even able to stick to every specific of the brief and provided Steph with an array of beautiful lightbulbs in a variety of unique styles, just as she had been hoping for! The end result was a stunning unique addition to the home in-keeping with the character and charm of a country cottage with a uniquely elegant and modern twist. The finished chandelier casts beautiful patterns and shadows onto the surrounding walls and ceiling, and the vintage style bulbs give a soft warm glow. This will certainly be a major talking point during Christmas Dinner! Vintage Chandelier restoration & rewire Stage Left Lux provide affordable professional repair and restoration services for most types of vintage and antique lighting, including chandelier. We were approached by a customer who had acquired a vintage chandelier from an antiques fair. Alison fell in-love with the chandelier from the moment she saw it, but it was broken, and the wiring was old and not up to UK electrical standards. We were able to source specialist chandelier cable which is thinner to enable it to fit through small holes, we also obtained special chandelier build holders. Stage Left Lux were able to sympathetically restore the chandelier retaining the look and feel of the original piece at the same time as making sure it is up to modern electrical standards and safe to use. We carefully dismantled the chandelier, gently cleaned to remove years of dust and lovingly rewired and fitted new modern bulb holders bringing it up to current UK electrical standards. Fire extinguisher bespoke lamp Stage Left Lux for bespoke feature lighting handmade in Derbyshire using upcycled and repurposed materials. Fire extinguisher bespoke lamp We were asked to commission a special feature lamp made from an old fire extinguisher, for a customer as a gift for her husband who is an ex-fireman. Fire extinguisher custom-made feature lamp We were recently contacted by a customer and asked if we could create a special lighting feature for her husband who was an ex-fireman. They were not sure what exactly they wanted the end product to look like, just that they would like it to have a fire extinguisher and a fire helmet. I have a few antique and vintage fire extinguishers in stock, I was able to give the customer various options to choose from, they chose a beautiful old copper extinguisher. I then sketched some initial ideas, the customer loved the what I was thinking and asked me to go ahead straight away! The initial plan was to build a wooden base, but during the make, I thought it would be a nice touch to have the wooden backboard floating on a copper frame, to add to the industrial steampunk effect of the piece. The wooden backboard was torched to enhance the fire theme. The end result is a stunning statement piece lamp which stands over a metre tall - a real testament to the dediucationa nd hard work that our firefighters do. Find out how we turned an old cornet into a beautiful feature lamp. About Stage Left Lux for bespoke feature lighting handmade in Derbyshire using upcycled and repurposed materials. Cornet upcycled lamp See how we gave this old cornet a new lease of life by converting it into a bespoke feature lamp that can be treasured for a lifetime. Cornet upcycled lamp We were contacted by a customer who had an old cornet, they wanted to keep it as a feature in their home but didn't know what to do with it. The cornet belonged to the customer's grandma who played in the Salvation Army band, the cornet was old and it'd had it's day as a musical instrument but it was sentimental because of the history attached to the customer's family. It was important to keep the integrity of the original musical instrument but ast the same time give it a new useful purpose. We were able to take a 'no damage' approach to upcycling this old cornet into a lamp, we carefully cleaned and dismantled the cornet, installed wiring and a bulb holder mounted in the horn, we hand-carved and constructed a wooden display base to mount the cornet on to, and fixed it in place using brass saddle brackets. The finishing touch was a large LED light bulb which features a treble clef filament. The end result was a beautiful decorative feature lamp that holds many wonderful treasured memories.

This beautiful french chandelier with ruby red and guilded features can to us broken and was transformed into something beautiful. Chandelier repair rewire & restoration from broken to beautiful At Stage Left Lux we love being able to bring old unloved light fittings back to life, by repairing and restoring them back to their former glory. We offer a chandelier restoration service. We were recently contacted by a customer who had this old chandelier, it had been up their loft for years and was broken and the owner of it thought it was beyond repair. The customer found us online, we asked the customer to send us some photographs of the light fitting so we could assess if it was fixable and what needed to be done to bring it back to life. Discussing and agreeing repairs and what needed to be done The customer brought the chandelier to us at our Derby-based workshop. We discussed ideas for it, showed the customer various options for different types of bulb holder and plans for the repairs. The customer wanted to keep it as original as possible, for the chandelier to be cleaned and repaired, but to keep some of the original patina to show it's age. Dismantling & cleaning The chandelier was carefully dismantled into around 40 individual parts. Each piece was carefully cleaned, polished and buffed. Ensuring that the grime was removed but enough patina was retained to ensure that it showed some age. Re-assembly and rewiring The chandelier arms were fitted with new electrical cable and chandelier was reassembled. Piece by piece the chandelier was put back together, I took lots of photos before taking it to bits to reference to ensure it was put back together the correct way! Six new BC22 bayonet cap bulb holders were fitted. Electrical testing After rewiring the chandelier was fully tested for electrical safety and to ensure it was working correctly. New fittings Brand new hanging chain was fitted in a brass colour in-keeping with the colour of the chandelier along with a new hanging hook ceiling rose to enable the chandelier to be safely fitted to the ceiling.
