A recent Anglepoise lamp repair Here are some before and after images of a recent Anglepoise lamp which we repaired and rewired. Judging by the style of the plug the wiring on this one dated to before 1984. As well as old wiring this Anglepoise also had a dented shade, we were able to gentle straighten out the shade and remove the dents. We fitted a new bulb holder, new switch and finished with modern vintage-style braided cable in an ivory cream colour to match the colour of the lamp base, arm and shade. The end result was a beautiful Anglepoise lamp which will last for many more years into the future. • Soda Syphon upcycled Lamp | Stage Left Lux

Discover how we can transform your old objects into wonderful feature lighting to bring a unique charm to your home. This unique lamp was made from an upcycled soda syphon. We can design and build bespoke ceiling lights, wall lighting, and table lamps to suit your style. Soda Syphon upcycled lamp If you’re looking for something to do with your old household objects speak to Stage Left Lux to see how we can help. We can transform most household objects into incredible lights for your home, we can upcycle your old unwanted items into bespoke feature lamps, giving them a new useful purpose. Can we turn a soda syphon into a lamp? Yes we can! We were recently asked by a customer if we could turn an old soda syphon into a lamp. We drew up plans for the soda syphon to give the customer the option to choose which idea they preferred best. We carefully dismantled and cleaned the soda syphon, we gave the customer the option of running the power cable either through the nozzle or out of the base of the syphon. The customer preferred the option with the cable coming out of the base, meaning we had to drill a hole at the side towards the bottom of the soda syphons metal body. We obtained a chrome bulb holder which was in keeping with the chrome finish of the metal parts of the syphon. We mounted the bulb holder on the part where the gas cannisters would have originally been fitted. This gave the bulb a funky 45 degree angle and using a vintage tear drop shaped bulb to mirror the shape of the gas cannisters which would once have been there. The overall effect was a very cool retro lamp perfect for the home bar. Stage Left Lux are an independent creative lighting business based in Derbyshire. We have a wide selection of vintage and antique pieces, as well as modern and contemporary designs. We are dedicated to helping you find the perfect piece for your home. Who are we? Hi! I'm Scott I am the owner of Stage Left Lux. I've always had a massive passion for all things electrical, and in particular lighting and specialist feature lighting. I'm also a keen collector of antiques and object d'art. I love collecting old quirky objects and finding out about their social history. Back in 2020 during the Covid pandemic, I started making upcycled lamps by turning everyday household objects into feature lighting from the garden shed. This started after visiting a local antique shop and finding some old vintage lights that needed some care and attention. I have an NVQ in electrical engineering and a PAT testing qualification, I knew exactly how to restore these old lights and bring them back to life. I made it my mission to visit local antiques shop, markets and anywhere else that I could find old lights that needed restoring and rewiring or any other unique household objects that I could upcycle into fun feature lamps. What does Stage Left Lux Mean? The name Stage Left Lux came about because I've always loved the theatre and one of the first lights I bought and restored was an old theatre light. 'Stage Left' is a theatrical term meaning the audience's right hand side of the stage also a play on the fact I'm using Stage-Left-Overs to create my lamps. Lux is a Latin term which is used to describe the brightness of a light. Over the past few years I have created some amazing lighting features and helped hundreds of people to find lights that bring a unique charm to their home. I now provide an upcycled lighting conversion services to turn practically any household object into a lamp, as well as vintage lamp restoration services to save old lighting fixtures that might end up being thrown away. I also love anything that's unique so on my website you will find a collection of amazing home interior design, lighting made by me, imported designer lighting as well as details of my lighting restoration and conversion services. • Upcycled Shotgun Lamp by Stage Left Lux

Bespoke upcycled Shotgun Lamp - Stage Left Lux for bespoke feature lighting handmade in Derbyshire using upcycled and repurposed materials. Upcycled shotgun lamp Could you turn an old shotgun into a lamp? Yes we can, at Stage Left Lux we make it out mission to take old unused objects and give them a purpose by transforming them into stunning lighting features. Here's the story about how an old rusty shotgun was transformed into a unique bespoke standing lamp. Last year I received a phone call from a lady... ''Hello! Is that the lighting shop? Could you turn a shotgun into a lamp?'' I was a bit taken aback and surprised to receive this phone call, my initial reply was ''I've not done one before but I'd give it a go, I'm certain that I can help with this!'' The lady on the other end of the phone was Steph who is from a farming background and lives in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside, she has an eclectic taste in art and design and loves anything that is unusual and quirky. Since last year, she has become a real advocate of Stage Left Lux and the way that we can take old, unused household objects and give them a new lease of life by repurposing them into bespoke lighting features. The shotgun had been in storage in a shed for years, was a bit rusty and ceased up. Steph was eager to turn it into a feature for her home which reflected her family's farming and countryside heritage. I was able to source a piece of oak with a live edge with bark, to create a rustic base to mount the gun on. We had decided on turning the shot gun into a standing lamp, so it was mounted vertically on the wooden base, I added an extension to one of the barrels to create some extra height. Given the hollow barrell this allowed the cabling to be neatly hidden inside and run towards the base. I even used spent shotgun cartridges as feet on the bottom of the oak base. The end result was a quirky standing lamp, which Steph absolutely loves. Since then Steph has been able to add a shade featuring peacock feathers in-keeping with the overall theme of the lamp. Steph has since commissioned me to design and create a ceiling lighting fixture made from a tree branch which will be a rustic lighting addition for her dining room. • Bespoke Oboe upcycled lamp by Stage Left Lux

Discover how we can transform your old musical instruments to make a beautiful feature for your home. We can design and build bespoke ceiling lights, wall lighting, and table lamps to suit your style. Oboe upcycled bespoke lamp If you’re looking for something to do with your old musical instruments speak to Stage Left Lux to see how we can help. We can transform most household objects into incredible lights for your home, we can upcycle your old unwanted items into bespoke feature lamps, giving them a new useful purpose. We were recently asked by a customer if we could turn an oboe into a lamp. We drew up various designs and plans for the oboe to give the customer the option to choose which idea they preferred best. The oboe had sentimental value, the owner of it played at school. The oboe had been up in the loft for years waiting for something to happen to it, the options were to throw it away, give it away or sell it. It didn’t have great financial value, but it was precious as it reminded the owner of their childhood. At Stage Left Lux we upcycle lots of old vintage items and antiques into feature lighting, we respect the history of the original item and like to preserve the integrity of it. We use a sympathetic approach to upcycling and try wherever possible to cause no or very minimal harm to the original item, and where possible use upcycling techniques which could be reversed in the future. What did we do? For the oboe lamp we were able to run the cable through the air holes in the side of the musical instrument meaning we had to drill no new holes. A bulb holder was fitted inside the horn allowing a candle shaped bulb to protrude out of the horn end. We were able to obtain a samurai sword stand which was in keeping with the finish and colour of the oboe, the stand made the perfect rest for the object to sit on. The finished result was a beautiful unique lamp that would provide happy childhood musical memories! Stage Left Lux are an independent creative lighting business based in Derbyshire. • Chandelier repair & Rewire | Stage Left Lux

This beautiful french chandelier with ruby red and guilded features can to us broken and was transformed into something beautiful. Chandelier repair rewire & restoration from broken to beautiful At Stage Left Lux we love being able to bring old unloved light fittings back to life, by repairing and restoring them back to their former glory. We offer a chandelier restoration service. We were recently contacted by a customer who had this old chandelier, it had been up their loft for years and was broken and the owner of it thought it was beyond repair. The customer found us online, we asked the customer to send us some photographs of the light fitting so we could assess if it was fixable and what needed to be done to bring it back to life. Discussing and agreeing repairs and what needed to be done The customer brought the chandelier to us at our Derby-based workshop. We discussed ideas for it, showed the customer various options for different types of bulb holder and plans for the repairs. The customer wanted to keep it as original as possible, for the chandelier to be cleaned and repaired, but to keep some of the original patina to show it's age. Dismantling & cleaning The chandelier was carefully dismantled into around 40 individual parts. Each piece was carefully cleaned, polished and buffed. Ensuring that the grime was removed but enough patina was retained to ensure that it showed some age. Re-assembly and rewiring The chandelier arms were fitted with new electrical cable and chandelier was reassembled. Piece by piece the chandelier was put back together, I took lots of photos before taking it to bits to reference to ensure it was put back together the correct way! Six new BC22 bayonet cap bulb holders were fitted. Electrical testing After rewiring the chandelier was fully tested for electrical safety and to ensure it was working correctly. New fittings Brand new hanging chain was fitted in a brass colour in-keeping with the colour of the chandelier along with a new hanging hook ceiling rose to enable the chandelier to be safely fitted to the ceiling. • Overseas lighting conversions - rewire lamps for the UK

We can rewire lamps imported from overseas to make them safe to use in the UK. Convert lamps for use in the UK We get lots of enquiries to rewire lights from overseas, especially lamps from the USA, Canada, Europe and other countries so they can safely be used in the UK. If you're bringing lamps from overseas into the UK, we can convert them. Imported lamps and light fittings may not safe to use and often do not meet UK wiring regulations. Whether you've purchased a chandelier at a market in France, a table lamp from Morocco or a desk lamp from America we can help by converting your light to make it safe for use in the UK, and for them to be able to be plugged in without the need for any adapters. Foreign lights not only have a different plug, but the bulb holders, switches and cables may not meet UK wiring regulations and safety standards. Due to lower voltages in many countries lamps are often wired using only thin two-core cable meaning the cable may not be able to withstand our higher voltage, but they are also not earthed, and could pose a risk of electric shocks or fire if not properly rewired. UK wiring regulations require that metal bulb holders are earthed. Metal parts could become a hazard if a fault with the wiring occurs, which could pose a risk of electric shocks. The earth connection will break the fuse and disconnect the power supply if a fault in the wiring causes the metal parts to become live, making the lamp safe. If you have purchased lamps or light fittings in Europe, the USA, Canada or any other country we can rewire them and fit British standard cable, bulb holders, plugs and switches, to ensure that they are safe and meet UK wiring standards & regulations.
