A recent Anglepoise lamp repair Here are some before and after images of a recent Anglepoise lamp which we repaired and rewired. Judging by the style of the plug the wiring on this one dated to before 1984. As well as old wiring this Anglepoise also had a dented shade, we were able to gentle straighten out the shade and remove the dents. We fitted a new bulb holder, new switch and finished with modern vintage-style braided cable in an ivory cream colour to match the colour of the lamp base, arm and shade. The end result was a beautiful Anglepoise lamp which will last for many more years into the future. We recently found an old top hat in Antiques in the Quarter local antiques shop on Queen Street Derby, shortly afterwards we were lucky enough to find an old mannequin clothing display bust. Something unique and special We really wanted to do something really special with this old top hat, it has so much history and beautiful wear. We decided that we wanted to use the top hat as a lampshade and the mannequin as a base. Our signature no-damage techniques to upcycling Using our signature, no damage techniques we were able to mount the top hat above the mannequin bust creating an eye-catching floating effect which retaining the full integrity of the top hat. We initially tried painting the bust – our original aim was to paint it black and white to replicate a tuxedo effect, however we didn’t like the paint finish. To correct this was covered the bust in tissue paper machete, the plan was to use the tissue paper as a nice base to paint on. However, when the tissue paper and glue had dried, we discovered it had created a beautiful marble effect which we loved. So instead of repainting the bust we decided to give it a coat of lacquer, this made the mannequin bust look like it was carved out of marble stone! We created a metal frame out of copper pipe and a round base for the top hat to sit on, with the bulb holder mounted underneath. We obtained a large lantern shaped bulb which just happens to be in the shape of a human head. We added a bowtie to give this lamp an extra quirky vintage ‘’gentleman Jack’’ feel. The finished result was an incredible, large-scale feature light worthy of being on display in an art gallery! Find out how we turned an old cornet into a beautiful feature lamp. About Stage Left Lux for bespoke feature lighting handmade in Derbyshire using upcycled and repurposed materials. Cornet upcycled lamp See how we gave this old cornet a new lease of life by converting it into a bespoke feature lamp that can be treasured for a lifetime. Cornet upcycled lamp We were contacted by a customer who had an old cornet, they wanted to keep it as a feature in their home but didn't know what to do with it. The cornet belonged to the customer's grandma who played in the Salvation Army band, the cornet was old and it'd had it's day as a musical instrument but it was sentimental because of the history attached to the customer's family. It was important to keep the integrity of the original musical instrument but ast the same time give it a new useful purpose. We were able to take a 'no damage' approach to upcycling this old cornet into a lamp, we carefully cleaned and dismantled the cornet, installed wiring and a bulb holder mounted in the horn, we hand-carved and constructed a wooden display base to mount the cornet on to, and fixed it in place using brass saddle brackets. The finishing touch was a large LED light bulb which features a treble clef filament. The end result was a beautiful decorative feature lamp that holds many wonderful treasured memories.

Rustic tree branch ceiling lighting fixture Stage Left Lux was commissioned by one of our regular customers to design and create a unique ceiling lighting fixture made from a rustic tree branch. Bespoke ceiling light chandelier made from a rustic tree branch We were contacted again by one of our customers to design and commission another bespoke feature light for their home. Last year we were asked by Steph to create a unique standing lamp by repurposing an old shotgun , this time Steph was looking for a unique ceiling light for her dining room. The brief: A nice rustic finish chandelier style ceiling light, with lamps suspended from a tree branch Wired using chunky vintage style braided cable in dark purple Antique brass light fittings a variety of unique and unusual vintage style lightbulbs in different shapes Steph had been able to find a tree branch that she liked the look of, after discussing various different options mounting and wiring and for the overall design, I provide steph with colour options and different styles of cable and bulb holders to choose from, as well as options for the colour of the ceiling rose accessories and mounting chain and hooks. After agreeing the colours and style, I set about researching many different lighting suppliers and wholesalers to find the perfect accessories and parts to make the ceiling light. I was able to assemble the pieces together and visit Steph at her home to install the lighting fixture for her, due to the organic nature of the branch there were several different ways that it could have been installed we were able to further discuss options whilst I was on-site and adjust the light to meet requirements during the installation. I was even able to stick to every specific of the brief and provided Steph with an array of beautiful lightbulbs in a variety of unique styles, just as she had been hoping for! The end result was a stunning unique addition to the home in-keeping with the character and charm of a country cottage with a uniquely elegant and modern twist. The finished chandelier casts beautiful patterns and shadows onto the surrounding walls and ceiling, and the vintage style bulbs give a soft warm glow. This will certainly be a major talking point during Christmas Dinner! Antique wall light restoration Find out how we brought this pair of antique candle sconces back to life by converting them into electric lights. Antique wall light repair and rewiring We were recently contacted by a customer who owns a pair of old antique wall lamps. These were originally a pair of candle sconces which had historically been converted into electric lights, but the bulb holders and wiring were missing, so were in need of a complete overhaul to get them back into a usable state. 01 Initial contact The customer discovered Stage Left Lux via a Google search. She explained to us that she owns this pair of wall candle sconces and wanted to get them rewired and repaired to be able to use them. We asked the customer to email us some photos so we could assess what needed to be done. 03 Assessment and sourcing of parts for repairs. When the candle sconces were received, we were able to carry out further assessments to identify any missing parts, and source spare parts from various lighting suppliers that we use. 02 Send them to us The customer sent the pair of candle holders to us at our Derby Workshop in the post. 04 Advanced Tech We identified that because these were previously candle holders it meant there was limited space to accommodate wiring and electrical connections safely. Therefore, we needed to design and construct wooden bases to enable the candle scones to mount on the wall and house the electrical terminals. 05 We sourced some suitable timber to create the wooden bases, and routed the edges to create an elegant, bevelled edge which was in-keeping with the style of the candle sconces and finished using a Jacobean dark oak stain leaving a beautiful, grained finish. 06 The candle sconces were attached to the bases using lovely brass screws. 07 Due to the candle sconces having solid arms, this meant that the wiring had to run on the outside of the arms. For the wiring we used transparent cable which is almost invisible, we attached this to the arms using brass wire to neatly tuck the cabling at the back of the arms and out of view. 08 We added two chandelier candle holder bulb holders to each of the candle sconces, with antique style candle tubes to cover the bondholders, and create a visually appealing appearance. 09 The finished wall lights were fully tested for electrical safety and to ensure they were operating correctly. 10 The wall lamps were carefully wrapped and packaged and returned back to the customer for them to be installed and enjoyed in their home. We aim to post all order the next day using a Parcel Force or Royal Mail tracked 24 hour service. You should receive your products normally within 2-3 working days of placing your order. Orders to the rest of the world normally arrive in 5-7 days. We aim to send in-stock items the next day, bespoke made to order items will take a little longer normally 7-10 days, we will contact you when you place your order to provide an estimated time of arrival and keep you updated during the making process. Delivery options UK & Northern Ireland Postage Postage is a flat £6.99 for all orders within the UK & Northern Ireland. Delivery is free if you spend £100 or more. If you’re near Derby collection is also available from our workshop at Banks Mill Studios, Bridge Street, Derby DE1 3LB – choose this option at checkout and contact us to arrange a suitable time for you to collect your purchase from us. If you live in Derby City Centre we are happy to deliver your item to you by hand. Republic of Ireland Postage All orders to the Republic of Ireland have a postage cost of £15 per order. Rest of the World Worldwide postage is charged at £65 per order. All orders will be posted using a secure tracked and signed for delivery service. Returns and repairs If for any reason you are unhappy with your purchase, or you’ve changed your mind please contact us with-in 14 days of receiving your order and we will do everything we can to resolve any issues. If you’ve changed your mind or have decided that you don’t like your new lamp It’s OK to change your mind, if you’d like to return your item, please contact us within 14 days of receiving your item and send the item back to us in the original condition. If you are returning an item because you have changed your mind you would need to pay the return postage.
