We can help to restore and rewire most types of vintage and antique light fixtures, including wall lights, floor & table lamps and chandeliers. Antique wall light restoration Find out how we brought this pair of antique candle sconces back to life by converting them into electric lights. Antique wall light repair and rewiring We were recently contacted by a customer who owns a pair of old antique wall lamps. These were originally a pair of candle sconces which had historically been converted into electric lights, but the bulb holders and wiring were missing, so were in need of a complete overhaul to get them back into a usable state. 01 Initial contact The customer discovered Stage Left Lux via a Google search. She explained to us that she owns this pair of wall candle sconces and wanted to get them rewired and repaired to be able to use them. We asked the customer to email us some photos so we could assess what needed to be done. 03 Assessment and sourcing of parts for repairs. When the candle sconces were received, we were able to carry out further assessments to identify any missing parts, and source spare parts from various lighting suppliers that we use. 02 Send them to us The customer sent the pair of candle holders to us at our Derby Workshop in the post. 04 Advanced Tech We identified that because these were previously candle holders it meant there was limited space to accommodate wiring and electrical connections safely. Therefore, we needed to design and construct wooden bases to enable the candle scones to mount on the wall and house the electrical terminals. 05 We sourced some suitable timber to create the wooden bases, and routed the edges to create an elegant, bevelled edge which was in-keeping with the style of the candle sconces and finished using a Jacobean dark oak stain leaving a beautiful, grained finish. 06 The candle sconces were attached to the bases using lovely brass screws. 07 Due to the candle sconces having solid arms, this meant that the wiring had to run on the outside of the arms. For the wiring we used transparent cable which is almost invisible, we attached this to the arms using brass wire to neatly tuck the cabling at the back of the arms and out of view. 08 We added two chandelier candle holder bulb holders to each of the candle sconces, with antique style candle tubes to cover the bondholders, and create a visually appealing appearance. 09 The finished wall lights were fully tested for electrical safety and to ensure they were operating correctly. 10 The wall lamps were carefully wrapped and packaged and returned back to the customer for them to be installed and enjoyed in their home. We created this beautiful steampunk table lamp custom-made to order based on a customers breif Bespoke steampunk style table lamp Generating ideas and making unique feature lighting. Bespoke made to order steampunk style table lamp Stage Left Lux received an email from a customer asking if we could make a steampunk lamp as a gift for a friend. The brief was that it should be copper and brass and include a vintage style Edison bulb. I asked the customer if they had any ideas in mind, and for them to send me photos of the styles they like in order to create a mood-board. I drew some sketches and designs which were emailed to the customer, after a few emails we had agreed the final design for the lamp. After just a couple of days the lamp was built by-hand, using copper pipe and brass fixings together with a vintage style light fitting and a large Edison vintage style bulb. The lamp was posted to the customer by special delivery ensuring that it got to them in plenty of time for them to give it to their friend as a gift. We can transform most household objects into incredible lights for your home, we can upcycle your old unwanted items into bespoke feature lamps, giving them a new useful purpose. Can we turn a soda syphon into a lamp? Yes we can! We were recently asked by a customer if we could turn an old soda syphon into a lamp. We drew up plans for the soda syphon to give the customer the option to choose which idea they preferred best. We carefully dismantled and cleaned the soda syphon, we gave the customer the option of running the power cable either through the nozzle or out of the base of the syphon. The customer preferred the option with the cable coming out of the base, meaning we had to drill a hole at the side towards the bottom of the soda syphons metal body. We obtained a chrome bulb holder which was in keeping with the chrome finish of the metal parts of the syphon. We mounted the bulb holder on the part where the gas cannisters would have originally been fitted. This gave the bulb a funky 45 degree angle and using a vintage tear drop shaped bulb to mirror the shape of the gas cannisters which would once have been there. The overall effect was a very cool retro lamp perfect for the home bar. Stage Left Lux are an independent creative lighting business based in Derbyshire. I'm Scott I am the owner of Stage Left Lux. I've always had a massive passion for all things electrical, and in particular lighting and specialist feature lighting. I'm also a keen collector of antiques and object d'art. I love collecting old quirky objects and finding out about their social history. Back in 2020 during the Covid pandemic, I started making upcycled lamps by turning everyday household objects into feature lighting from the garden shed. This started after visiting a local antique shop and finding some old vintage lights that needed some care and attention. I have an NVQ in electrical engineering and a PAT testing qualification, I knew exactly how to restore these old lights and bring them back to life. I made it my mission to visit local antiques shop, markets and anywhere else that I could find old lights that needed restoring and rewiring or any other unique household objects that I could upcycle into fun feature lamps. What does Stage Left Lux Mean? The name Stage Left Lux came about because I've always loved the theatre and one of the first lights I bought and restored was an old theatre light. 'Stage Left' is a theatrical term meaning the audience's right hand side of the stage also a play on the fact I'm using Stage-Left-Overs to create my lamps. Lux is a Latin term which is used to describe the brightness of a light. Over the past few years I have created some amazing lighting features and helped hundreds of people to find lights that bring a unique charm to their home. I now provide an upcycled lighting conversion services to turn practically any household object into a lamp, as well as vintage lamp restoration services to save old lighting fixtures that might end up being thrown away. Vintage Chandelier restoration & rewire Stage Left Lux provide affordable professional repair and restoration services for most types of vintage and antique lighting, including chandelier. We were approached by a customer who had acquired a vintage chandelier from an antiques fair. Alison fell in-love with the chandelier from the moment she saw it, but it was broken, and the wiring was old and not up to UK electrical standards. We were able to source specialist chandelier cable which is thinner to enable it to fit through small holes, we also obtained special chandelier build holders. Stage Left Lux were able to sympathetically restore the chandelier retaining the look and feel of the original piece at the same time as making sure it is up to modern electrical standards and safe to use. We carefully dismantled the chandelier, gently cleaned to remove years of dust and lovingly rewired and fitted new modern bulb holders bringing it up to current UK electrical standards.
