This beautiful french chandelier with ruby red and guilded features can to us broken and was transformed into something beautiful. Chandelier repair rewire & restoration from broken to beautiful At Stage Left Lux we love being able to bring old unloved light fittings back to life, by repairing and restoring them back to their former glory. We offer a chandelier restoration service. We were recently contacted by a customer who had this old chandelier, it had been up their loft for years and was broken and the owner of it thought it was beyond repair. The customer found us online, we asked the customer to send us some photographs of the light fitting so we could assess if it was fixable and what needed to be done to bring it back to life. Discussing and agreeing repairs and what needed to be done The customer brought the chandelier to us at our Derby-based workshop. We discussed ideas for it, showed the customer various options for different types of bulb holder and plans for the repairs. The customer wanted to keep it as original as possible, for the chandelier to be cleaned and repaired, but to keep some of the original patina to show it's age. Dismantling & cleaning The chandelier was carefully dismantled into around 40 individual parts. Each piece was carefully cleaned, polished and buffed. Ensuring that the grime was removed but enough patina was retained to ensure that it showed some age. Re-assembly and rewiring The chandelier arms were fitted with new electrical cable and chandelier was reassembled. Piece by piece the chandelier was put back together, I took lots of photos before taking it to bits to reference to ensure it was put back together the correct way! Six new BC22 bayonet cap bulb holders were fitted. Electrical testing After rewiring the chandelier was fully tested for electrical safety and to ensure it was working correctly. New fittings Brand new hanging chain was fitted in a brass colour in-keeping with the colour of the chandelier along with a new hanging hook ceiling rose to enable the chandelier to be safely fitted to the ceiling. Top hat upcycled vintage style lamp If you’re looking for something to do with your old household objects speak to Stage Left Lux to see how we can help. We can transform most household objects into incredible lights for your home, we can upcycle your old unwanted items into bespoke feature lamps, giving them a new useful purpose. We recently found an old top hat in Antiques in the Quarter local antiques shop on Queen Street Derby, shortly afterwards we were lucky enough to find an old mannequin clothing display bust. Something unique and special We really wanted to do something really special with this old top hat, it has so much history and beautiful wear. We decided that we wanted to use the top hat as a lampshade and the mannequin as a base. Our signature no-damage techniques to upcycling Using our signature, no damage techniques we were able to mount the top hat above the mannequin bust creating an eye-catching floating effect which retaining the full integrity of the top hat. We initially tried painting the bust – our original aim was to paint it black and white to replicate a tuxedo effect, however we didn’t like the paint finish. To correct this was covered the bust in tissue paper machete, the plan was to use the tissue paper as a nice base to paint on. However, when the tissue paper and glue had dried, we discovered it had created a beautiful marble effect which we loved. So instead of repainting the bust we decided to give it a coat of lacquer, this made the mannequin bust look like it was carved out of marble stone! We created a metal frame out of copper pipe and a round base for the top hat to sit on, with the bulb holder mounted underneath. We obtained a large lantern shaped bulb which just happens to be in the shape of a human head. We added a bowtie to give this lamp an extra quirky vintage ‘’gentleman Jack’’ feel. The finished result was an incredible, large-scale feature light worthy of being on display in an art gallery! Fire extinguisher bespoke lamp Stage Left Lux for bespoke feature lighting handmade in Derbyshire using upcycled and repurposed materials. Fire extinguisher bespoke lamp We were asked to commission a special feature lamp made from an old fire extinguisher, for a customer as a gift for her husband who is an ex-fireman. Fire extinguisher custom-made feature lamp We were recently contacted by a customer and asked if we could create a special lighting feature for her husband who was an ex-fireman. They were not sure what exactly they wanted the end product to look like, just that they would like it to have a fire extinguisher and a fire helmet. I have a few antique and vintage fire extinguishers in stock, I was able to give the customer various options to choose from, they chose a beautiful old copper extinguisher. I then sketched some initial ideas, the customer loved the what I was thinking and asked me to go ahead straight away! The initial plan was to build a wooden base, but during the make, I thought it would be a nice touch to have the wooden backboard floating on a copper frame, to add to the industrial steampunk effect of the piece. The wooden backboard was torched to enhance the fire theme. The end result is a stunning statement piece lamp which stands over a metre tall - a real testament to the dediucationa nd hard work that our firefighters do. Stage Left Lux is a unique lighting shop based in Derbyshire , in the heart of England. All our vintage style lamps and bespoke lighting features are designed and handcrafted by us in our workshop in Derby and are available to buy via our online lighting shop, from us at various craft fairs, markets and in a selection of shops in the UK. Every single one of our lamps is a one-of-a-kind work of art. We think that great lighting should look amazing when it’s switched off as well as doing a good job as a functional light when it’s switched on. Established in 2020 Stage Left Lux was established in 2020 by me, Scott Trelfa following a trip to Heanor Antiques Centre. During the trip to the antiques center I found an old vintage theatre light. I took the light home, fitted a new bulb holder, and rewired it and turned the old theatre light into a wonderful vintage style tripod standing lamp. This sparked off the drive to create something useful and beautiful out of something old unused objects, by upcycling old objects into funky lamps and novelty lights. Vintage Chandelier restoration & rewire Stage Left Lux provide affordable professional repair and restoration services for most types of vintage and antique lighting, including chandelier. We were approached by a customer who had acquired a vintage chandelier from an antiques fair. Alison fell in-love with the chandelier from the moment she saw it, but it was broken, and the wiring was old and not up to UK electrical standards. We were able to source specialist chandelier cable which is thinner to enable it to fit through small holes, we also obtained special chandelier build holders. Stage Left Lux were able to sympathetically restore the chandelier retaining the look and feel of the original piece at the same time as making sure it is up to modern electrical standards and safe to use. We carefully dismantled the chandelier, gently cleaned to remove years of dust and lovingly rewired and fitted new modern bulb holders bringing it up to current UK electrical standards.
