We created this beautiful steampunk table lamp custom-made to order based on a customers breif Bespoke steampunk style table lamp Generating ideas and making unique feature lighting. Bespoke made to order steampunk style table lamp Stage Left Lux received an email from a customer asking if we could make a steampunk lamp as a gift for a friend. The brief was that it should be copper and brass and include a vintage style Edison bulb. I asked the customer if they had any ideas in mind, and for them to send me photos of the styles they like in order to create a mood-board. I drew some sketches and designs which were emailed to the customer, after a few emails we had agreed the final design for the lamp. After just a couple of days the lamp was built by-hand, using copper pipe and brass fixings together with a vintage style light fitting and a large Edison vintage style bulb. The lamp was posted to the customer by special delivery ensuring that it got to them in plenty of time for them to give it to their friend as a gift. I was recently approached by a fellow trader whilst at a market in Burton-on-Trent. Julie, asked if I could create a ceiling light for her based on an idea she had for a spider-like design pendant light, using upcycled glass jars as lightshades. We discussed ideas and plans and I was able to draw some sketches with some ideas, it was exactly what Julie had in-mind. The parts such as the ceiling rose, cabling and fixing accessories for the light were ordered and I even installed the light in Julie’s living room at her home in Sutton-in-Ashfield. Saving Julie the hassle of finding an electrician to do it! Julie was thrilled with the service and she’s in love with her new light fitting. Upcycled Camera wall lights designed and handmade by Stage Left Lux .bespoke feature lighting handmade in Derbyshire using upcycled and repurposed materials. Upcycled vintage camera wall lights We were asked to turn some old vintage Kodak cameras in to a pair of unique wall lights. Vintage Kodak camera wall lights Stage Left Lux were recently commissioned by a customer to create a pair of wall lights out of a pair of old Kodak Brownie Cameras. The cameras belonged to the customers dad so were of sentimental value, so it was key to be able to create a special pair of lights that would be sympathetic to the cameras and provide lasting memories whilst serving the purpose of providing a useful light source. The brief: Create a pair of lamps out of two vintage cameras. The lights were to be a pair as they will be used as bedside lamps The lamps needed to be wall mountable To be wired using ‘Kodak yellow’’ vintage style power cable Early on in the design stage we thought it would be a brilliant idea if the lights were somehow mounted on tripods, this would allow the lamps to be adjustable in order for them to be used as reading lights. We obtained a pair of miniature camera tripods and mounted these on small wooden shelves to create a wall mountable base. The light fitting was to be fitted into the camera flash, which provided a reflector to create a spotlight type effect. This posed some challenges as the camera flashes were a small size, we decided to use G4 LED bulbs which provide a bright light source but are small in size. G4 LEDs run on a 12 volt power supply – this meant we needed to incorporate a low voltage transformer somewhere. To do this we added a junction box to contain the transformer this was also used to house the switch gear to turn the lamps on and off. The junction box could then be then tucked away neatly under the shelf to conceal it. The end result was a pair of unique wall lights which were beautiful in design, stylish and practical. We can rewire lamps imported from overseas to make them safe to use in the UK. Convert lamps for use in the UK We get lots of enquiries to rewire lights from overseas, especially lamps from the USA, Canada, Europe and other countries so they can safely be used in the UK. If you're bringing lamps from overseas into the UK, we can convert them. Imported lamps and light fittings may not safe to use and often do not meet UK wiring regulations. Whether you've purchased a chandelier at a market in France, a table lamp from Morocco or a desk lamp from America we can help by converting your light to make it safe for use in the UK, and for them to be able to be plugged in without the need for any adapters. Foreign lights not only have a different plug, but the bulb holders, switches and cables may not meet UK wiring regulations and safety standards. Due to lower voltages in many countries lamps are often wired using only thin two-core cable meaning the cable may not be able to withstand our higher voltage, but they are also not earthed, and could pose a risk of electric shocks or fire if not properly rewired. UK wiring regulations require that metal bulb holders are earthed. Metal parts could become a hazard if a fault with the wiring occurs, which could pose a risk of electric shocks. The earth connection will break the fuse and disconnect the power supply if a fault in the wiring causes the metal parts to become live, making the lamp safe. If you have purchased lamps or light fittings in Europe, the USA, Canada or any other country we can rewire them and fit British standard cable, bulb holders, plugs and switches, to ensure that they are safe and meet UK wiring standards & regulations.
